Low-E coatings, or thermal control coatings, are commonly applied to architectural and automotive glass. While these coatings are effective in controlling thermal performance, they have a notable drawback: they limit the transmission of various wavelengths, including those used by mobile phones. Many of us have experienced signal attenuation due to Low-E glass, which often results in poor cell phone connections in contemporary buildings and trains.

To address this issue, a solution has been developed that involves laser scribing thin lines into the Low-E coating. This process creates an almost invisible grid that allows 4G and 5G signals to pass through more effectively. The amount of coating removed is minimal, ensuring that the thermal performance of the glass remains largely unaffected. Consequently, this technology enables the creation of mobile-friendly glass in trains and buildings.

We invite you to join our upcoming webinar with Stijn Lambrechts, the business developer at ORION Laser Tech. During this session, he will explain the reasons behind mobile signal attenuation and the specific impact of Low-E windows.
